Shimla Police have taken cognizance of a viral social media video showing a woman allegedly being assaulted on the city’s Mall Road and have registered a case following a preliminary investigation.
According to police, the video, which surfaced on September 23, showed a man physically assaulting a woman in a public place. After verifying the authenticity of the footage, police registered FIR No. 126/26 at Sadar Police Station, Shimla, under Sections 74, 79 and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, police identified both the woman and the man seen in the video and summoned them to Sadar Police Station for questioning. The two informed police that they are husband and wife. They stated that they were married in May this year and had come to Shimla for their first visit after marriage.
Police separately questioned the woman regarding the incident and recorded her statement. The viral video has been preserved as evidence, and other relevant electronic evidence connected to the case has also been collected.
Investigators are further verifying the exact location of the incident to ensure that all available facts and evidence are included in the probe. Based on the evidence gathered so far, police have initiated legal action against Anmol Khosla, a resident of Mohali, Punjab, under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Shimla Police said that legal proceedings in the registered case are being carried out as per law. Officials emphasized that the investigation is still underway and cautioned against drawing any final conclusions before the probe is completed.
