A 23-year-old woman died by suicide after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance following a late-night firing and stone-pelting incident in Harcharan Nagar, near Shingar Cinema Road, in Ludhiana. The incident occurred around midnight on Monday, triggering tension in the locality. The woman’s family later blocked traffic at CMC Chowk, demanding justice.
The case has taken a dramatic turn, with industrialist Divyanshu Bagga, who claims to have been in a relationship with the woman, and her family making conflicting allegations over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Industrialist Alleges 15–20 Rounds Fired at His Vehicle
According to Divyanshu Bagga, Raina Dhir had invited him to her residence late on November 2 to celebrate a birthday by cutting a cake. He claimed that he reached the location in his Thar SUV at around 12.30 am, where a group of people allegedly surrounded him.
Bagga alleged that Raina’s mother, Seema Rani, instigated her brother, Rohan Dhir, and 25–30 unidentified men to attack him. He claimed that the group fired approximately 15–20 rounds and pelted his vehicle with stones.
According to Bagga, bullets damaged the vehicle’s tyres, but he managed to escape in the damaged SUV. He alleged that the incident deeply distressed Raina, who subsequently consumed a poisonous substance.
Bagga further claimed that the two families had known each other for a long time and that his relationship with Raina had grown closer during a visit to Khatu Shyam.
Woman’s Brother Rejects Claims, Alleges Harassment
However, Rohan Dhir, the deceased woman’s brother, rejected Bagga’s allegations and presented a different version of events.
Rohan alleged that Bagga had been mentally harassing his sister for the past three months and had repeatedly misbehaved with her in the neighbourhood. He claimed that the family had warned him several times but that the alleged harassment continued.
According to Rohan, Bagga arrived outside their house with his associates on the night of the incident, allegedly consumed alcohol and played loud music. He further claimed that Bagga attempted to run his vehicle over family members.
Rohan also alleged that Bagga had brought men from Haibowal to fire at their house. He claimed that the alleged harassment and pressure had driven his sister to take the extreme step.
The brother stated that the family possessed evidence, including call recordings, to support its allegations.
Family Blocks CMC Chowk, Tension Prevails
The woman’s death following the reported firing and stone-pelting incident has heightened tensions in Harcharan Nagar. Her family staged a protest at CMC Chowk, blocking traffic and demanding justice.
The case has become contentious, with both sides making serious and contradictory allegations. The circumstances of the firing, the alleged harassment and the events preceding the woman’s death remain to be established.
The allegations made by both parties have not been independently verified. Further details regarding the police investigation and any official action were not available in the information provided.
