Two young men were killed and a woman sustained critical injuries in a horrific road accident late Thursday night in Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision of Kapurthala district. The accident occurred near village Sawal on the Talwandi Chaudhrian road.

According to police, a Mahindra XUV500 (registration number PB10DT2835) was travelling from Sultanpur Lodhi towards Talwandi Chaudhrian when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle near village Sawal. The speeding SUV first rammed into a roadside tree, then smashed through the iron grill of a nearby private school before crashing into another tree.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled.

One Dies on the Spot

Rahul Gill, son of Satpal and a resident of Bidhipur village in Sultanpur Lodhi, died at the scene. His body was shifted to the mortuary of the Civil Hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi around 1 am.

Teenager Succumbs During Treatment

Two injured occupants — 17-year-old Lahugli, son of Sonu Ram and a resident of Talwandi Bootian village in Jalandhar, and Anjana Rani (23), wife of Rahul Gill and a resident of Shankar village, Jalandhar — were rushed to the Civil Hospital.

Doctors later declared Lahugli dead during treatment.

Woman Referred to Higher Centre

Anjana Rani suffered serious injuries and was referred to a higher medical centre after receiving primary treatment. Her condition is reported to be critical.

Police Begin Investigation

A local police team reached the spot soon after receiving information about the crash and initiated an investigation. Officials are trying to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including whether overspeeding or any other factor led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Further investigation is underway.
