A tragic road accident near Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana claimed the life of a young lawyer, Shivani Wadhwa, on Thursday after a speeding car allegedly hit her Activa scooter near Saggu Chowk.
According to reports, Shivani Wadhwa was returning home on her scooter when the accident took place near the PAU area. She sustained critical injuries after the speeding car rammed into her vehicle with great force.
Family members said Shivani was preparing to become a judicial officer and was the sole earning member of the family. Her sister is married, while her father has been bedridden and in a coma for a long time following a brain hemorrhage.
In a statement to the police, Shivani’s relative Sumit Baweja said he was riding behind her Activa scooter (PB 08 DR 2652) when a speeding car (PB 91 E 9666) struck the scooter. The impact reportedly threw Shivani into the air, leaving her seriously injured.
Baweja immediately rushed her to a multi-speciality hospital in Ludhiana in an unconscious and blood-soaked condition. However, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The family also alleged that the woman driving the car left the hospital fearing police action.
Relatives have demanded strict action against the accused driver, stating that reckless driving shattered Shivani’s dream of becoming a judicial officer forever.
