A 27-year-old man was hacked to death with sharp-edged weapons, while his friend suffered critical injuries in an attack late Friday night in Narot Jaimal Singh area of Pathankot. The incident reportedly took place after an argument broke out at a roadside dhaba.

The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar, a resident of Taluka village in Narot Jaimal Singh. The injured youth, Tanuj (21), who also belongs to the same village, was first admitted to the Civil Hospital in Pathankot before being shifted by his family to a private hospital due to his critical condition.

According to family members, Raj Kumar and Tanuj had gone to a dhaba near Road Jamal Singh late Friday night for dinner. Some people were already sitting there, and an argument reportedly erupted between the two groups over an issue that soon turned violent.

Raj Kumar’s brother-in-law, Ravinder Kumar, said the attackers assaulted both youths with sharp weapons, including datars. Raj Kumar suffered deep injuries on his head, chest, stomach, neck, and legs, while Tanuj sustained a serious head injury.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the murder and assault.
