Ahead of Lok Sabha polls for Punjab seats, jailed separatist Amritpal Singh has been allotted the poll symbol of 'mike'. Amritpal is contesting from the Khadoor Sahib seat in Punjab as an Independent candidate. He was one of 169 independent candidates out of 328 that received election symbols.
The chief of 'Waris Punjab De' Amritpal is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act.
Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, an Independent running for the Faridkot (reserve) constituency, has been assigned the electoral symbol 'Ganna Kisan' (sugarcane farmer). Khalsa is the son of Beant Singh, one of the assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, Gandhi's bodyguards, assassinated her on October 31, 1984, at her home.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C announced on Sunday that 328 candidates running for Punjab's 13 Lok Sabha seats have been assigned election symbols by district election officers in accordance with Election Commission of India guidelines.
