At least 15 Indian tourists lost their lives after a tourist boat capsized near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island on Saturday. The boat was carrying 36 people, including 32 Indian nationals, when the accident occurred.
According to Reports, most of the Indian passengers were from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Rescue teams have saved 21 people, while search operations are continuing to locate those still missing.
Local media reported that the incident took place around 10:30 a.m. The boat was taking Indian tourists to Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, a popular tourist destination near Phu Quoc, when it overturned about 400 metres from the shore.
The island is well known for its crystal-clear waters, small beaches, and coral reef diving. Tourists usually reach the island by hiring boats or speedboats from An Thoi Port.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said it is gathering detailed information about the incident and has established a control room to assist affected passengers and their families. The embassy added that it is in constant contact with local authorities and is providing all possible assistance to Indian citizens.
