A 16-year-old girl lost her life after suffering an electric shock from a damaged water pump wire while doing household chores in Punjab’s Ropar district on Saturday morning. The tragic incident took place in Sada Vrat Mohalla, located opposite the city railway station.

According to family members, Kajal had gone to switch on the household water pump at around 11 a.m., as she did every day to fill water containers. The floor was wet, and her feet were soaked when she accidentally stepped on a section of the pump’s power cable that had been cut and left exposed, resulting in a severe electric shock.

The family alleged that the municipal water supply in the locality has very low pressure, forcing residents to rely on electric motors to draw water into their homes. They said Kajal was using the pump for the same reason when the accident occurred.

After pulling the wire away, family members rushed the unconscious teenager to the Civil Hospital in Ropar on a motorcycle. Doctors said she was brought to the emergency ward at around 11:10 a.m. with an almost imperceptible pulse.

The medical team immediately administered CPR and emergency medication in an effort to revive her, but she showed no response. Despite their efforts, Kajal was declared dead at 11:20 a.m.
