555 Degrees conferred during the sixth Convocation of Central University of Punjab

BATHINDA: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organised its 6th Convocation Ceremony on .5th January (Tuesday) at CUPB Ghudda Campus. Hon’ble Chancellor of the University Padma Bhushan Prof. S.S. Johl presided over the ceremony. The Chief Guest of this program was Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturiranjan, Emeritus Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bangalore.

Keeping in view of the pandemic (COVID-19) situation, the Convocation Program was held on virtual mode and students attended this program via an online platform. During this Convocation, a total of 555 PG/PhD degrees were conferred on virtual mode which includes 535 Masters Degrees & 20 PhD Degrees.  Gold Medals were awarded to 31 students who delivered an excellent performance at different disciplines. Out of 567-degree recipients, four degrees recipients were foreign national students of Afghanistan who got conferred with PG Degree by the Central University of Punjab. These International students did MBA in Agriculture, MA in Political Science, M.Tech in Computer Science & Technology and M.Sc Physics from this university.

At the start of the program, CUPB Vice Chancellor Prof Raghavendra P. Tiwari delivered the welcome address. During his address, Prof Tiwari presented the University’s Report where he highlighted the university’s achievements and best practices. He mentioned that CUPB is offering a wide range of instructional and research facilities across integrated & cross-disciplinary studies through its 42 Masters and 35 PhD Programs. He added, the aim of University is to create new knowledge by uplifting the standards of teaching and research through innovation. He appreciated faculty & research scholars for their consistent efforts due to which this university has registered best research output among new central universities and got the best faculty to project ratio as compared to other established Universities in the region. He stated that our students are lucky to have received education in the sacred land Bathinda, where you are trained, is also called Guru Kee Kashi, which treasures the ocean of knowledge created by the Ten Gurus for the welfare of humanity. He emphasized that the University is committed to implementing all imperatives of NEP-2020 and realising the mission of re-establishing India as Knowledge Capital of World.

The chief guest Dr. K. Kasturiranjan congratulated the degree recipients and winners of gold medals. He stated that CUPB has set a benchmark in the field of education & research and under the guidance of Chancellor Prof S.S. Johl and leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof R.P. Tiwari this university will achieve new heights in years to come. He stated that the CUPB is providing multidisciplinary holistic education with a wide variety of programmes and Vision & Mission as well as focus towards research is well synchronised with the vision of NEP-2020. He expressed his hope that Bathinda will soon be home to enlightened intellectuals as the University expands further. He encouraged youngsters to work on innovative ideas and choose the profession of their interest. He motivated scholars to peruse their research for the betterment of society.

During his Presidential Address, honourable Chancellor Prof S.S. Johl congratulated outgoing students on completing their degrees. He mentioned that within the short duration of 11 years of its establishment, CUPB becomes the youngest central university to get ranked among the best Top 100 Universities of India in NIRF Rankings. He added, that the university has huge potential and as the University has now shifted to permanent campus it surely will improve its rankings. He mentioned that youngsters should adopt a learning attitude throughout their life. He asserted, teachers should keep in mind the unique responsibility they have towards society and they should inculcate moral values & develop scientific temperament among students.

During this program, Shri Kanwal Pal Singh Mundra, Registrar coordinated the stage for conferring the degrees to recipients and announcing winners of Gold Medals Award. Towards the end, Prof V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare thanked everyone for making this programme a success.
