Amid continuing opposition demands for a debate on the alleged NEET paper leak and the student protests linked to it, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, requesting that a discussion on the issue be scheduled in Parliament.
In his letter, Shah said the government is fully prepared for a debate and is willing to participate for as long as the Speaker considers appropriate.
He noted that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had already conveyed the government’s consent for a discussion on the NEET examination and the related student agitation during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee.
Shah also pointed out that the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 had been discussed earlier in the current session of Parliament. According to him, no opposition MP had raised concerns regarding the NEET examination during that debate.
Despite that, he said, the government is once again ready to hold a detailed discussion on the matter.
In the letter, the Home Minister requested the Speaker to consult with opposition parties and allocate whatever duration—hours or days—is considered suitable by mutual agreement. He added that he would remain present in the House during the discussion and would be prepared to answer all questions raised by the opposition regarding the NEET issue and the student protests.
The development comes as opposition parties continue to press for an extensive parliamentary debate on alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and their impact on students across the country.
