Amritsar Commissionerate Police have claimed a major breakthrough in their anti-terror operations by busting an alleged terror module linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A 24-year-old suspect, identified as Sumit Kumar alias Pandit, has been arrested during the operation.
Police recovered a hand grenade, a sophisticated 9mm Glock pistol, four live cartridges, and a motorcycle from the accused. According to Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the suspect is a native of Punjab's Rupnagar district.
Officials said Sumit came under the police radar after being named in an NDPS Act case in 2023. Following that case, he moved to Pandori village in Amritsar Rural to stay with relatives and worked at a garment factory.
During his stay, the accused allegedly came into contact with Pakistan-based ISI handlers through social media. Police claim the handlers lured him with promises of money and assistance in settling abroad before recruiting him for alleged terror-related activities.
The police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the wider network and identify others who may be connected to the alleged module. The recovered weapons and digital evidence are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.
