Ramdev refuses to take the controversy further
Yoga guru Swami Ramdev on Sunday refused to further escalate his ongoing controversy with BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. He made it clear that he did not want to prolong the matter and would refrain from making further comments on the issue. Ramdev said the country knows who Swami Ramdev is and is also aware of his contribution, adding that he therefore does not want to comment on such people.
Controversy began after Kangana’s remarks
The war of words between Ramdev and Kangana Ranaut began after the BJP MP made controversial remarks about the younger generation and Generation Z. Kangana had described young protesters and Gen Z as “Generation Gutter”. Her remarks drew criticism from several quarters. Ramdev later reacted to her comments and questioned her views about the younger generation.
Kangana hits back on social media
Following Ramdev’s remarks, Kangana Ranaut hit back at him on social media. She objected strongly to comments allegedly made about her personal life and character. Kangana said that commenting on someone’s private life, youth and personal matters was inappropriate. The exchange between the two subsequently intensified.
Ramdev speaks on ‘Vande Mataram’ and Bharat Mata
Apart from the controversy, Ramdev also expressed his views on ‘Vande Mataram’. He described Bharat Mata as the centre of his faith and devotion, saying that for him, Bharat Mata represents Durga and Lakshmi. Ramdev said Bharat Mata is a symbol of knowledge, faith, worship, duty, purpose and the ultimate destination. He also said that people should study Sanskrit and understand its meaning better to appreciate the references to deities and Indian culture in ‘Vande Mataram’.
Focus on reforms in key sectors
Ramdev also emphasised the need for continued reforms in education, healthcare, the economy, agriculture and various aspects of democracy. He said the government is working in these areas and that the process of reforms will continue in the future. According to him, strengthening these sectors is essential for the country’s development.
Questions raised over involving children in protests
Ramdev also questioned those who claim that nothing good is happening in the country. He alleged that some people are involving children as young as five, seven and ten years old in protests. He said children are being asked to surround police stations, gherao SPs and district magistrates and take to the streets. Ramdev stressed that such issues need to be considered seriously and handled responsibly.
