Amritsar Rural Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their crackdown on illegal arms trafficking in the border region adjoining Pakistan. A team from Gharinda Police Station recovered four pistols along with their magazines during a special checking operation and has launched an investigation to trace the smugglers behind the consignment.
The seized weapons have been taken into police custody, while efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved in the supply chain. Investigators are trying to determine where the firearms originated, the purpose for which they were brought into the area, and who was expected to receive the consignment in Punjab.
According to preliminary findings, police suspect the weapons may have been dropped inside Indian territory from across the border using a drone. However, Amritsar Rural Police said the use of a drone has not yet been officially confirmed and will be established only after a detailed investigation and forensic examination.
Police teams are mapping sensitive border areas and scrutinising the records of suspected smugglers as part of the probe. Officials believe the recovery may have foiled a major cross-border conspiracy or criminal operation and expressed confidence that more individuals linked to the network will be identified and arrested in the coming days.
