Amritsar Rural Police have busted several networks involved in illegal arms, explosives and drug trafficking, claiming to have solved three firing incidents in the process. A total of 16 accused have been arrested in separate cases.

The police recovered five illegal pistols, two modern Uzi guns, two hand grenades, 34 kg of heroin and 26 live cartridges from their possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with foreign-based handlers who allegedly arranged supplies of illegal weapons for them. These weapons were subsequently passed on to people involved in criminal activities.

The police are now investigating the network to identify other individuals linked to the supply of illegal weapons and narcotics.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Gharinda, Beas, Mehta, Lopoke and Chheharta police stations. Further questioning of the arrested accused is underway.
