AAP national spokesperson Anurag Dhanda on Thursday questioned Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha’s allegations against the Punjab government over his voter registration, claiming that Chadha’s vote in Delhi had already been registered on September 2.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Dhanda said Chadha had applied for a voter ID on August 26 and his name was added to the electoral roll in Rajinder Nagar after the stipulated seven-day process.
Taking a jibe at the speed of the process, Dhanda said, “The bullet train that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was going to bring to India would not have travelled at the speed at which Raghav Chadha’s vote was made.”
Dhanda questioned why Chadha had accused the Punjab government on social media on September 3 of getting his vote deleted if his Delhi voter registration had already been completed a day earlier.
He said the Election Commission had clarified that Chadha applied through the required form on August 26 and that his vote was registered after completion of the seven-day period. Dhanda stressed that the Punjab government had no role in the process, as voter registration is handled by the Election Commission.
Displaying a copy of Chadha’s tweet and documents related to his voter registration, Dhanda said the two documents “expose the truth” behind the controversy. He also alleged that the episode showed the extent of the BJP and Chadha’s “hatred” towards Punjab.
