March is observed as the National Birth Defect Awareness Month

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India is observing the month of March as the National Birth Defect Awareness Month and observed March 3 as World Birth Defect Day.
As to commemorate this special month, it's imperative to raise awareness about the types of birth defects prevalent in our community and the vital role of preventive measures and treatment options under different health program especially under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
Sharing more details in this regard an official spokesperson said that approximately 6 percent of children are born with some form of birth defects. In every corner of Haryana, there are children unfortunately facing a variety of birth defects, each with its own unique challenges. Among these conditions are congenital heart defects, clubfoot, cleft lip, neural tube defects, congenital deafness, retinopathy of prematurity, Down syndrome, and many others. Despite these challenges, these children bring immense joy and inspiration to their families and communities if provided ample opportunity to participate in different activities of life domains.
The Spokesperson further said that during this month-long celebration of awareness, it's crucial to highlight the importance of early screening, diagnosis, timely referral and interventions/treatment provided by the RBSK program. By embracing a proactive approach, one can identify and address birth defects early in a child's life, ensuring timely medical interventions and support. Empower families with information and resources to navigate the journey of raising a child with a birth defect.
The spokesperson said that educating healthcare providers and the broader community about the significance of early detection and intervention in improving outcomes for children with birth defects has been ensured. Through the concerted efforts of the RBSK program and the support of our community, we can ensure that every child in Haryana receives the care and attention they deserve.
