Amritsar court on Sunday (June 15) granted interim bail to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a case related to alleged misconduct inside a police station.

Majithia has been accused of tearing official documents and attempting to secure the release of one of his supporters from police custody. Punjab Police had been conducting raids to arrest him in connection with the case. Police also alleged that he and his associates brandished weapons and damaged case files inside the police station.

Reacting to the court's decision, Shiromani Akali Dal's chief spokesperson and advocate Arshdeep Singh Kler claimed that the case registered against Majithia during the Aam Aadmi Party government was politically motivated and had once again failed to stand scrutiny before the court.

Kler said that judicial decisions are based on evidence rather than statements made by political leaders. He also questioned the Punjab government's earlier claims regarding the case, stating that courts have repeatedly raised concerns over the handling of such matters.

He further referred to an earlier case involving Jobanjeet, alleging that the arrest had been termed unconstitutional and unethical by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and said the interim bail granted to Majithia reflects similar judicial concerns.
