MMC for Electricity Abolished

Chandigarh, February 24- Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal once again took a historic decision in the interest of the poor, announcing the discontinuation of the monthly minimum charge (MMC) for electricity consumers with approved loads of up to 2 kilowatts. It is noteworthy that this announcement by the Chief Minister will provide relief of approximately Rs. 275 crores annualy to nearly 8 lakh poor families in the state. The Chief Minister's move in the direction of public welfare in the state is being considered a historic step.
It should be noted that the monthly minimum charge has been determined for consumers whose approved electricity load is up to 2 kilowatts and whose monthly consumption is up to 100 units. This charge is collected at the rate of Rs. 115 rupees per kilowatt per month. Now, Chief Minister, Sh Manohar Lal has announced in the recent budget to discontinue this monthly minimum charge, which will provide relief of approximately Rs. 275 crores per year to nearly 8 lakh poor families in the state.
Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal has introduced a plethora of concessions to benefit electricity consumers across the region in the budget.
