A court has sent Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh to a two-day police remand after accepting the police’s request for custodial interrogation.

The hearing was conducted via video conferencing and is linked to the 2023 Ajnala police station attack case. In this case, Amritpal Singh, along with around 41 others, faces serious charges including rioting, assault, criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder.

Currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail, Amritpal was not physically brought to Amritsar. Considering security concerns, the High Court had permitted a virtual appearance, citing potential law-and-order issues if he were transported.

During the remand period, police are expected to intensify the investigation, focusing on other accused individuals and the sequence of events.

The Ajnala incident occurred in February 2023, when Amritpal and his supporters allegedly stormed a police station, broke barricades, and attempted to free an associate. The confrontation led to clashes with police, and Amritpal has been named the main accused in the case.
