The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has dismissed reports claiming an imminent hike in petrol and diesel prices, calling them misleading and unfounded. The ministry clarified that there is currently no proposal under consideration to increase fuel prices.

The clarification comes after a report by Kotak Institutional Equities suggested that petrol and diesel prices could rise by ₹25 to ₹28 per litre following the ongoing state elections. The report had raised concerns about a potential sharp increase in fuel prices in the near future.

Refuting these claims, the government stated that such reports are being circulated to create unnecessary fear and panic among the public. The ministry further asserted that India is the only country where petrol and diesel prices have not been increased over the past four years.

According to the ministry, the Government of India, along with public sector oil companies, has consistently taken steps to shield consumers from the impact of rising crude oil prices in the international market. These efforts, it said, are aimed at ensuring that citizens are not burdened with additional costs despite global price volatility.
