Farmers are getting crop loans from cooperative banks at zero percent interest rate

Punjab Newsline, Chandigarh, March 19 –

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini said that the number of decisions taken by the current Central and State govts in the last 10 years in the interest of farmers has never been matched by previous governments. He said that under the Mera Pani Meri Virasat scheme, farmers will now receive an incentive of Rs 8,000 per acre for switching from paddy to alternative crops, an increase from the previous Rs 7,000 per acre. In addition, crop loans are being provided to farmers through cooperative banks at a zero percent interest rate.

The Chief Minister was responding to a question raised by INLD MLA Aditya Devi Lal regarding crop loans for farmers during the ongoing budget session in the Assembly here today.

He informed the House that crop loans are given to farmers through Harco Bank and other cooperative banks at an interest rate of 7 percent. However, the Haryana Government bears 4 percent of the interest, while the Central Government covers 3 percent.
