India has issued a safety advisory for its citizens in France amid violent protests and curfews imposed in several cities. The Indian Embassy in Paris has urged Indians living in France, as well as those planning to travel to the country, to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

In an advisory issued on Wednesday, the embassy asked Indian nationals to stay away from protest sites and crowded areas and follow instructions issued by local authorities. It also advised them to monitor local news reports and check the French government's official website, gouvernement.fr, for the latest updates on the situation.

Indian citizens travelling in the Paris region have been advised to check the latest public transport information on the RATP website. In case of an emergency, they can contact the Indian Embassy in Paris or the Consulate General of India in Marseille.

Protests in France reportedly began in late September, with students raising concerns over poor school infrastructure, inadequate resources and overcrowded classrooms. The demonstrations gradually expanded, with protesters also expressing concerns over inflation, the rising cost of living and the state of public services.

The unrest has reportedly involved incidents of looting, arson and clashes between police and demonstrators. Following violence on October 17, authorities imposed curfews in parts of Paris. Local curfews were also introduced in Lille, Lyon and Nice, while restrictions on public gatherings and demonstrations were imposed in Marseille.

According to media reports, more than 2,400 people were arrested during violence over the weekend, while around 1,000 police personnel were injured.

France's major student unions and the Yellow Vests movement have called for rallies on Saturday, raising concerns about further demonstrations and possible disruptions.
