Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered a halt on the sale of several Dabur products, including honey and cow ghee, which were being marketed with claims such as “100% Pure” and “100% Natural”.
FSSAI said the claims were found to be misleading and in violation of food safety and labelling regulations. The authority has sought a detailed report from Dabur within 15 days. The information was made public through FSSAI’s official social media channels on Monday, August 3.
According to FSSAI, misleading promotional claims were detected on food products sold through the company’s website. The labels included:
“100% Natural”
“100% Pure”
“100% Purity Guaranteed”
“100% Organic”
“100% Tender Coconut Water”
The regulator stated that the use of such “100%” claims violates the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018, as they are vague, unverified, and likely to mislead consumers.
Other Major Violations Noted
Unauthorized ‘Jaivik Bharat’ Logo
FSSAI found that Dabur Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Dabur Organic Honey were carrying the ‘Jaivik Bharat’ logo without a valid FSSAI organic endorsement.
Incorrect Claim on Compound Food
The authority also observed that Dabur Homemade Coconut Milk was being sold with a “100% Purity” claim. Under the FSS Regulations, 2018, compound or mixed food products are not permitted to make such purity claims.
FSSAI has directed the company to review and correct the labelling and advertising practices of the concerned products. Further action may be taken based on Dabur’s response and the findings of the regulator’s review.
