Haryana Governor, Bandaru Dattatraya on Monday extended his heartfelt wishes and greetings to the citizens of the country and the state on the auspicious occasions of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. He prayed for good health, happiness, and prosperity for the people of the state.
He emphasised the importance of festivals in our culture, stating that they serve as a unifying force that brings everyone together. Makar Sankranti is a significant festival not only for Haryana but also for Telugu communities. It is celebrated with sesame seeds (til) and jaggery (gur), symbolizing love and sweetness, respectively.
Highlighting the significance of Makar Sankranti, the Governor explained that the festival represents a transition in nature. The sun moves from the southern hemisphere (Dakshinayan) to the northern hemisphere (Uttarayan), dispelling darkness and ushering in light and warmth. This period signifies growth and progress.
In Haryana, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as "Sankranti" with great joy and fervour. It is a day to honour daughters and seek blessings from elders. On this occasion, people present shawls and blankets to their elders as a mark of respect and receive their blessings.
