Indian runner clocks 59:42 to finish third at the New York City Half Marathon

India’s star long-distance runner Gulveer Singh delivered a remarkable performance on the international stage by setting a new national record in the men’s half-marathon (21 km). The achievement came during the prestigious New York City Half Marathon, held in New York on Sunday.

The 27-year-old runner from the Indian Army completed the race in 59 minutes and 42 seconds, creating the fastest time ever recorded by an Indian in the half-marathon distance. With this performance, Gulveer Singh not only achieved a personal milestone but also rewrote the national record in the event.

According to information shared by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Gulveer displayed outstanding speed and endurance throughout the race. Competing against some of the world’s top distance runners, he maintained a strong pace and secured an impressive third-place finish in the highly competitive field.

The race was won by South African runner Adriaan Wildschutt, who finished with a time of 59:30. Moroccan-born American long-distance runner Zouhair Talbi secured the second position, while Gulveer Singh claimed third place with his record-breaking performance.

This achievement is considered a significant moment for Indian athletics. Over the past few years, Gulveer Singh has consistently delivered strong performances in distance running events, and this latest record further highlights his growing stature on the global stage.
