Rs. 224.20 crore cash prizes given to sportspersons during last four year

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya said that State government has awarded more than Rs. 224.20 crore in cash prizes to sportspersons in the last four years. Haryana is the first state in the country to provide an advance amount of Rs. 5 lakh for the preparation of athletes immediately after qualifying for the Olympics and Paralympics. Additionally, provisions have been made to provide an advance amount of Rs. 2.50 lakh to Asian, Para-Asian, and Commonwealth players.
Addressing the House during the budget session of state assembly, the Governor said that Haryana’s athletes have brought laurels to the state and the country by bagging medals in the Olympics and other international competitions. "In the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham in 2022, out of the 61 medals won by India, our athletes clinched 20 medals.", he added.
He mentioned that Haryana is one of the states which is giving the highest cash prizes to its medal-winning athletes. He informed that during the current financial year, 1100 sports nurseries have been allotted in the state. Athletes in 24 residential academies are provided with a daily diet allowance of Rs. 400 per day. The state government has created 550 new posts for outstanding sports person. Sports Persons have been given 3 percent reservation in Group-C and 10 percent reservation in Group D jobs.
