Haryana government is set to expand the coverage of its Lado Lakshmi Scheme, with around 25 lakh women expected to receive ₹2,100 per month after the eligibility criteria are widened.

Saini government had earlier announced an increase in the annual income limit for women seeking benefits under the scheme. The ceiling, which was initially fixed at ₹1 lakh, was later increased to ₹1.40 lakh and is now being raised to ₹1.80 lakh per year.

The government is preparing to reopen the scheme’s registration portal on September 25, the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. The scheme was launched on the same date last year.

According to government figures, the 10th installment was released on August 10, and around 9.98 lakh women are currently receiving the monthly assistance. With the revised income limit, approximately 17 lakh additional women are expected to become eligible, taking the total number of beneficiaries to around 25 lakh.

The latest revision marks the third change in the scheme’s eligibility criteria within a year. The expansion is also being viewed in the context of welfare schemes gaining political significance in the region ahead of the expected Punjab Assembly elections.

Punjab’s Scheme Has No Income Ceiling

In Punjab, more than 73.5 lakh women have registered under the Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana, while payments have reached the bank accounts of over 68.5 lakh women.

Unlike Haryana, Punjab has no income-based eligibility ceiling for the scheme. Women belonging to the general category receive ₹1,000 per month, while women from the Scheduled Caste category receive ₹1,500 per month.

With Haryana now raising its income ceiling to ₹1.80 lakh, the Lado Lakshmi Scheme is expected to significantly expand its reach among women across the state.
