BJP leader and Ajay Yodha Maharaja Surajmal Trust president and Mahipal Choushala has publicly objected to a recent statement made by Haryana BJP president Dr. Archana Gupta, in which she allegedly accused previous governments of favouring a particular caste in government jobs and referred to a remark about “hanging the kurta on a hook.”
Choushala said the Jat community should not be viewed merely as a ‘special caste’, but as a society that has played a vital role in the creation, development, and progress of Haryana.
“Jats are not just a special community; they are the finest class. Without this community, Haryana’s politics is incomplete, the sports world is incomplete, the nation’s borders are incomplete, and even our fields and farms are incomplete,” Choushala said.
He highlighted the community’s contribution in national service, agriculture, sports, and social development, stating that Jats have played an important role from soldiers defending the country’s borders to athletes bringing glory to India on international platforms.
“We are proud to be Jats”
The BJP leader said he is proud of his Jat identity and added that no community should be subjected to comments that could hurt people’s sentiments.
“Political differences may exist, but remarks that hurt the feelings of any caste or community should be avoided. Politics should move forward by taking every section of society along,” he said.
Choushala stressed that Haryana’s identity has been shaped by the collective contribution of all communities, not by any single group. He urged political leaders to use language that strengthens social harmony and brotherhood rather than creating divisions.
He further noted that the Jat community has made significant contributions in Haryana’s social, political, agricultural, sports, and military sectors, and those contributions cannot be ignored.
Voice Raised Within BJP Itself
Choushala’s reaction is being seen as significant because he has publicly expressed disagreement with the statement of his own party’s state president.
He clarified that while political disagreements are natural, leaders should avoid statements that may hurt the sentiments of any community. According to him, social harmony has always been a key element of Haryana’s politics, and the state’s future progress depends on taking all sections of society together.
