India defeated England by six wickets in the first ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The match witnessed several memorable moments, including Jasprit Bumrah achieving a major career milestone and MS Dhoni's surprise appearance in the stands.
Bumrah claimed his 150th ODI wicket and became the Indian bowler with the most ODI wickets in England. His tally of 31 wickets in the country surpassed Ravindra Jadeja's previous record of 30. The pace spearhead also became the third-fastest Indian to reach 150 ODI wickets in terms of balls bowled, achieving the feat in 4,605 deliveries. Mohammed Shami tops the list with 4,070 balls, followed by Kuldeep Yadav with 4,513.
England's Liam Dawson scored 68 runs to register his maiden ODI half-century at the age of 36 years and 135 days, making him the second-oldest England player to score a first ODI fifty. The record is held by Geoffrey Boycott, who reached the milestone at 38 years and 245 days.
A dramatic moment unfolded during England's innings when Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar collided while attempting to catch Jos Buttler, though both players escaped without serious injury.
