An Indian Navy vessel and a Pakistani naval ship were involved in a collision in the North Arabian Sea while operating in international waters, according to Indian authorities. No major damage was reported in the incident.
According to India's account, the Indian warship was on a routine surveillance mission when a Pakistani naval vessel approached it at high speed and made an unsafe change of course. The two vessels subsequently collided.
Following the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest. India described the conduct of the Pakistani naval unit as “unacceptable and unprofessional.”
The Indian government also said the conduct was contrary to provisions of the 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements, specifically Article 10, according to reports citing the MEA.
The incident comes amid heightened sensitivity surrounding naval and maritime operations in the Arabian Sea. Further details about the vessels involved and the circumstances leading to the collision have not been publicly disclosed.
