External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Monday and conveyed a special personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Beginning the meeting, Jaishankar said, “I would like to start by conveying greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has given me a personal message for you, which I would like to hand over to you.”
Jaishankar also briefed Putin on the outcome of the Inter-Governmental Commission meeting, saying India had a positive report to share on bilateral cooperation.
He highlighted significant progress in economic cooperation, including trade, energy, fertilisers, nuclear cooperation and other sectors. Jaishankar said he was pleased to discuss these areas in greater detail with the Russian leadership.
“Overall, I think our economic cooperation has grown quite rapidly,” Jaishankar said.
He added that Prime Minister Modi was looking forward to meeting Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and welcoming him to India for the BRICS Summit. Jaishankar also said the two leaders would hold their annual summit at a mutually convenient time.
External Affairs Minister said the two countries currently have a “very strong picture” of bilateral cooperation, reflecting the growing depth of India-Russia ties.
