Six terrorists have been neutralised while two Army soldiers have been killed in action during ongoing operations launched by security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon.Terrorists and security forces are currently engaged in an encounter in the Frisal Chinnigam area of Kulgam district.
The bodies of two terrorists were spotted on Sunday at Modergham village taking the number of neutralised terrorists to 6 in two ongoing encounters.
In Modergam village of Kulgam, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the village. As the forces went close to the house, hiding terrorists opened indiscriminate fire at them resulting in injuries to a soldier who later passed away at an Army hospital.
“Security forces received an input about the movement following which the target house was surrounded and from inside the house gunfire was drawn; the encounter is still going on in Chinnigam,” VK Birdi, IGP Kashmir, told the media near the encounter spot adding that the bodies had been sighted.
The encounters have come at a time when the Amarnath Yatra is going on and terror outfits have threatened to target it.
