Major Steps for Flood Management by the Punjab Govt, Aman Arora Given Charge of Jalandhar Control Room

As per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a central flood control room has been established at the Circuit House in Jalandhar to tackle any possible flood situation in Punjab and to ensure immediate relief in affected areas. This control room will function 24 hours a day. The government has also issued an emergency helpline number – 0181-2240064. The main objective of this initiative is to further strengthen flood prevention and management.

The government has entrusted the overall responsibility of this important control room to Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who also holds the charge of Administrative Reforms and Information Technology. To assist him, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar, and Deepak Bali, Advisor, Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Punjab, have been appointed. In addition, 18 staff members have been deployed to attend to calls related to flood/disaster management.

This control room will primarily keep special monitoring on three districts: Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, and Fazilka. At the state level, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, and Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal have been designated as ministers in charge for overseeing flood management across Punjab.

In addition, specific duties have been assigned to ministers for each district:

Kapurthala: Responsibility has been entrusted to Minister for Defence Services Welfare Mohinder Bhagat and Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Hardeep Singh Mundian.

Tarn Taran: Monitoring will be done by Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar and Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O.

Fazilka: Responsibility has been given to the Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur and Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs Tarunpreet Singh Sondh.

These efforts by the government reflect its commitment to being fully prepared to deal with any unforeseen situation in the future. Mobile numbers of all the ministers and officers appointed have also been issued so that immediate contact can be made whenever required.
