Malawi's Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others have lost their lives in a plane crash. This information is being given by the President of Malawi. According to the information, Malawi's Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and his wife along with 9 others died when the plane they were traveling in crashed in the Chikungwa mountain range, the government gave this information on Tuesday. President Lazarus Chakwera declared Tuesday a national day of mourning.
A statement by the Office of the President and Cabinet said that unfortunately, all the people on board the plane have died in the accident. The accident happened after the military plane took off from the country's capital Lilongwe on Monday morning. Chilima and other passengers were going to attend the funeral of the country's former Attorney General when their plane disappeared from the radar.
Air traffic officials said the plane was unable to land at Mzuzu airport, about 200 miles north of the capital, because of poor visibility, and the pilot was advised to return to Lilongwe when the plane went missing. Chilima, 51, was seen as a potential contender for next year's presidential election in Malawi.
