India’s leading dairy cooperatives Amul, Mother Dairy, and Verka have announced a price hike of up to ₹2 per litre on milk, effective Thursday, May 14.
Verka, operated under MILKFED Punjab, has increased prices across all milk variants including full cream, standard, toned, and cow milk. The revised rates will be applicable across Punjab from Thursday morning, putting additional burden on consumers.
Similarly, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, stated that the price revision has been necessitated due to continuous rise in input costs such as cattle feed, packaging materials, fuel, and transportation. The hike ranges between 2.5% and 3.5%, depending on the product category.
Mother Dairy also confirmed the revision, stating that increasing operational and production costs over recent months have left the sector under sustained pressure.
These cooperatives added that periodic price adjustments are necessary to maintain supply chains and ensure fair returns to dairy farmers amid rising production expenses.
