A shocking case of alleged child abuse has surfaced in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, where an 18-month-old girl was reportedly assaulted by her own mother. Authorities rescued the child and arrested the woman after a disturbing video of the incident came to light.

According to officials, the woman was seen in the video allegedly throwing the toddler onto a bed by holding her head before slapping her six times within a span of 10 seconds. The clip was reportedly recorded by the mother herself and sent to her husband.

The incident took place in the Nanaksar locality of Tarn Taran. District Child Protection Officer Rajesh Kumar said that the Child Protection Helpline received a complaint along with the video showing the alleged assault on the child.

After reviewing the footage, the Child Protection Department, along with the police, conducted a raid at the woman’s parental home. The accused was taken into custody, while the toddler was safely rescued.

During preliminary questioning, investigators reportedly learned that the woman’s husband lives away from home and that she allegedly assaulted the child and sent the video in an attempt to force him to return.

Officials also revealed that initial investigations suggest both parents are addicted to drugs. Considering the child’s safety and welfare, she has been placed under protective care while authorities continue a detailed investigation into the case.
