The Supreme Court on Monday ordered partial reopening of the Shambhu border between the states of Punjab and Haryana.The court's directive came after hearing Haryana's plea against Punjab and Haryana High Court's direction to unblock the Shambhu Border. The court has asked Haryana & Punjab to explore partial opening of Shambhu border within one week.
The Bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan heard the matter. The judges said that partial opening of road at Shambhu border was needed for facilitating movement of ambulances, essential services and local commuters.
Commenting on the blockade, the court observed that highways are not for parking tractors, trolleys and JCBs.
