BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has decided to invest Rs 1500 crore in three years for the complete revamp of the Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar, officials said on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved the master plan for the transformation of the OUTR, formerly known as College of Engineering and Technology (CET). The state aims to develop the university at par with reputed technical institutions like IIT.

According to the officials, Rs 1,000 crore will be spent in the institution in the first year alone. While 4,600 students are currently studying at OUTR, it will be developed with a target to accommodate 10,000 students in the next five years.

Taking a review of the available infrastructure, management, teaching facilities at the institute, Patnaik advised the concerned officials to develop it as one of the leading institutions in the field of technical education and research.

A Centre of Excellence will be set up in the university to offer new courses on new age technology and to promote human resource development and inter-departmental research programmes.

In addition, the university would make partnerships with national and international level institutions for quality teaching and research, the officials said.

An Incubation Center will also be developed in collaboration with various leading industries to encourage Startup culture and entrepreneurial spirit among the students.

The College of Engineering and Technology (CET) was established in 1981 and it was shifted to a 100-acre permanent campus at Ghatikia in 2001. It was accorded the status of a university in 2021 and renamed as Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR). It is the only institution in Odisha that has received 'A' grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
