More than 250 people fell sick after eating food at a wedding ceremony in Sangrur. Soon after the meal, guests began complaining of severe vomiting and diarrhea, triggering panic at the event.
Several affected individuals were admitted to government and private hospitals in Moonak, while some patients were also shifted to hospitals in Tohana and Fatehabad for treatment.
According to reports, 81 patients first arrived at the civil hospital in Moonak, which alerted authorities to the scale of the incident. Health officials collected food samples from the wedding venue and sent them for laboratory testing to determine the cause of the suspected food poisoning.
Local residents said the wedding ceremony took place on Tuesday afternoon at a community hall (dharmshala) in Moonak.
Former minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa also visited the hospital to meet the affected people, followed by Punjab minister Barinder Goyal, who took stock of the situation and inquired about their condition.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the patients, while the investigation into the food contamination is underway.
