Punjab’s government schools, once associated with dilapidated buildings, broken furniture and limited facilities, are undergoing a major transformation. Today, several government schools across the state boast modern infrastructure, advanced laboratories, smart boards, swimming pools and well-equipped playgrounds, with facilities that can rival leading private schools.
The transformation has been highlighted as part of the education model of the Aam Aadmi Party government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The upgraded schools are providing children from different socio-economic backgrounds access to quality education and modern learning facilities.
On Saturday, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal shared a video on social media platform X showcasing three government schools in Ludhiana, Sangrur and Nawanshahr. He expressed happiness and satisfaction over the work carried out by the Bhagwant Mann-led government in the education sector.
Kejriwal said the government schools featured in the video could even outperform private schools in terms of infrastructure and facilities. He said such schools were changing the education landscape of Punjab.
“We have built thousands of such schools in Punjab,” Kejriwal said, adding that people would find it difficult to believe that these were government schools. He claimed that the upgraded institutions could compete with some of the best private schools in the country.
Expressing satisfaction over the initiative, Kejriwal said the transformation would particularly benefit children from economically weaker sections. He said children of labourers, rickshaw pullers, plumbers, electricians and lower-middle-class families were now getting access to quality education and opportunities to pursue careers such as medicine and engineering.
