India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Punjab, warning of heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. The weather office has forecast widespread rain across the state on July 8 and July 9, with heavy showers likely at isolated places in six districts.

According to the forecast, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, and Mohali are expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Moderate to widespread rain is also likely in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, and Patiala, while Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, and Bathinda may witness light to moderate showers at a few places. Cloudy skies are expected to prevail across the state.

Meanwhile, rising humidity and high temperatures pushed Punjab's electricity demand to 15,003 MW on Tuesday. The state generated 4,673 MW of its own power, while 10,578 MW was allocated from the central power pool. The grid frequency remained stable at 50.05 Hz.

According to the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), the Bhakra Dam recorded a water level of 1,567.02 feet on July 7. The reservoir received an inflow of 38,018 cusecs, while 23,229 cusecs of water was released. At the Pong Dam, the water level stood at 1,318.71 feet, with an inflow of 17,875 cusecs and an outflow of 15,500 cusecs.
