Punjab remains under a red alert for severe weather conditions on Friday, with the Meteorological Department warning of intense dust storms, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall in several parts of the state.
According to the forecast, strong dusty winds blowing at speeds of 70–80 kmph are likely to hit many districts, accompanied by lightning and scattered rainfall. Some areas may also witness hailstorms.
Although a red alert had already been issued on Thursday, weather activity remained limited in many districts. A few areas experienced morning dust storms and cloudy skies, but intense sunshine continued throughout the day, keeping temperatures extremely high.
Faridkot recorded the highest temperature in the state at 45.4 degrees Celsius. Bathinda closely followed at 45 degrees Celsius, while Fazilka recorded 43 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana registered 42 degrees Celsius, Ferozepur 41.5 degrees Celsius, and Amritsar 41.4 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during storm activity and avoid unnecessary travel during high-speed winds and lightning conditions.
