The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Chandigarh, has arrested a clerk posted at Kalka Railway Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a retired railway employee in exchange for releasing his pending Tough Location Allowance (TLA).

The accused, identified as Rajnish, was caught during a trap operation laid by the CBI after a complaint was filed by the son of the retired employee. Following the arrest, the CBI registered an FIR against the clerk under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the complaint, Himanshu Singh, a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, alleged that his father, Sunder Singh, had served as a trackman at Taksal Railway Station in Himachal Pradesh and retired around three years ago. Despite retirement, he had not received his TLA dues from the Railways.

To claim the allowance, an application was submitted on April 18, 2026. On May 5, 2026, Himanshu visited the Kalka Railway Station office and met clerk Rajnish regarding the pending arrears. The clerk reportedly informed him that his father was entitled to approximately ₹74,000 in TLA arrears and demanded ₹14,000 as a bribe to process the payment.

The amount was later reduced to ₹10,000, and the clerk allegedly threatened to withhold the arrears if the bribe was not paid. Following the demand, Himanshu approached the CBI, which verified the complaint and laid a trap. The accused was caught while allegedly accepting the bribe amount and was taken into custody.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
