Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured after a speeding private bus ran over four people on the Pathankot–Jalandhar National Highway on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred near Kauntarpur village when the bus, travelling from Jalandhar to Jammu, allegedly went out of control and ploughed into people standing by the roadside.

According to police, the Laxmi Holiday bus lost balance around 10 a.m. near Sandipani Gurukul School at Kauntarpur Chowk. The out-of-control vehicle hit a parked motorcycle, a scooter and two pedestrians, leaving four people critically injured.

The injured motorcycle and scooter riders were rushed to Raj Neuro Hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries on the way. The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Singh (38) and Arun Kumar (32), both residents of Kauntarpur village.

Ranjit Singh is survived by his two young sons, aged three and six, and was assisting his father in farming. Arun Kumar worked at a local tent house in the village.

The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who stopped the bus and set it on fire in protest. Police from Nangal Bhoor police station rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control and launched an investigation into the incident.
