Tarn Taran Police have busted a cross-border arms smuggling network and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in trafficking illegal weapons from across the international border. Eight illegal pistols along with magazines were recovered from their possession.
According to the police, the arrested accused have alleged links with Pakistani smugglers and were part of a network supplying illegal firearms to various districts of Punjab. The investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the weapon supply chain.
The operation was carried out as part of a special crackdown on anti-social and criminal elements launched under the leadership of Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav and the guidance of Ferozepur Range DIG Snehdeep Sharma. Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba had directed the district police to intensify action against cross-border crime.
Acting on specific human and technical intelligence, teams led by CIA Staff Tarn Taran Inspector Rupinderpal Singh intercepted the suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Jaskaran Singh alias Karan and Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh, both residents of Chuslewar village.
Police said the duo was allegedly in contact with Pakistani smugglers and procured illegal firearms from across the border before distributing them to criminal networks operating in different parts of Punjab. Further investigation is underway to uncover the entire network and determine the intended recipients of the seized weapons.
