Amritsar Commissionerate Police, in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), has taken action against a person for accommodating foreign nationals without completing the mandatory registration formalities.
Meanwhile, three Thai nationals who continued to stay in India despite the expiry of their visas have been deported to Thailand.
A joint team of the police and FRRO inspected a residential building in Pratap Nagar on GT Road in Amritsar, where five foreign nationals were found staying. During the verification of their travel documents, officials discovered that the visas of three Thai nationals had expired, but they were still residing in India.
After completing the necessary legal formalities, all three were deported to Thailand.
The inspection also revealed that the building where the foreign nationals were staying was not registered on the mandatory Form-3 portal, which is used to record details of foreign guests. The authorities had also not been informed about the stay of the foreign nationals.
Taking note of the violations, the police registered a case against the person providing accommodation under Section 23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, at the B-Division police station.
Police Issue Advisory to Hotels, Guest Houses and Homestay Operators
The Commissionerate Police and FRRO have directed hotel operators, guest house owners, paying guest (PG) accommodation providers, homestay operators and private property owners to ensure mandatory registration and upload details of foreign nationals on the Form-3 portal before accommodating them.
The police warned that violations of these regulations could pose challenges to national security and the country's immigration system. Strict legal action will be taken against those found violating the prescribed rules.
