The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday, arrested Harjit Singh, a Forest Guard, posted at Malerkotla, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest was made following verification a complaint filed by a resident of Malerkotla. He further added that the complainant has approached the VB alleging that he had built a marriage palace at village Dilawargarh, near Kup Khurd village and the aforementioned accused had demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh to allow passage to the palace from the main road.
The spokesperson further informed that during verification of the complaint the VB team laid a trap during which the above said accused has been arrested while he was accepting Rs 20000 as a first instalment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the aforementioned accused at the Economic Offences Wing, VB, Police Station, Ludhiana.
