A seven-year-old boy from Ranchi, Ranchi in Jharkhand, has achieved a remarkable milestone by setting a world record after swimming across the challenging Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka.

The young swimmer, Ishank Singh, completed the 29-kilometre open-water stretch in 9 hours and 50 minutes, becoming the youngest person in the world to accomplish this feat. The Palk Strait is known for its strong currents, unpredictable waves, and difficult sea conditions, making the achievement even more extraordinary.

Ishank began his swim early in the morning from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka and successfully reached Arichalmunai in Dhanushkodi, India, around noon, overcoming extreme physical and environmental challenges throughout the journey.

With this record-breaking performance, he surpassed the previous mark held by a Tamil Nadu swimmer who completed the crossing at the age of 10.

The achievement has drawn widespread praise, including from Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who lauded the child’s discipline and determination, calling it a proud moment for the state and the country.
