Punjab's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ministers and MLAs will appear before the Akal Takht on Monday to present the state government's position on the Jaagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
Addressing a press conference in Amritsar on Sunday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that all AAP ministers and legislators summoned by the Akal Takht would attend the proceedings. Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan will also accompany them.
Mann said the party would submit written responses wherever required and that all those appearing before the Akal Takht would also present their views after the proceedings. He emphasized that the AAP government fully respects the supreme authority of the Akal Takht and would comply with every directive issued by it with complete faith and sincerity.
The Chief Minister clarified that he had not been summoned personally. He also stated that a fake video featuring a person impersonating him while wearing a mask would be submitted to the Akal Takht along with an explanatory letter.
Mann added that the Speaker, ministers, and MLAs would humbly present the Punjab government's stand before the religious body.
The Akal Takht has expressed reservations over the Punjab government's newly enacted sacrilege-related legislation. The ministers and MLAs who approved the law have been asked to explain why they supported the amendment, making Monday's appearance a significant development in the ongoing controversy.
