In a major breakthrough against drug and arms smuggling, Amritsar Police have dismantled an international cross-border smuggling network that allegedly used drones to transport weapons and heroin from across the border. Four accused have been arrested, while two others remain absconding.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, DCP Law and Order Alam Vijay Singh said the action was taken under FIR No. 142/26 by Sultanwind Police Station.
The case unfolded on June 25, 2026, when a police patrol intercepted a motorcycle without a registration number on suspicion. During the search, police recovered one pistol and five live cartridges from the two occupants, identified as Gursewak Singh and Nirwail Singh. Three cartridges were found loaded in the magazine, while the remaining two were recovered from Nirwail Singh's pocket.
Police investigations revealed that both accused have a criminal background. They were already wanted in connection with a house firing incident registered at Chheharta Police Station on April 30, 2026, and had been absconding in that case.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that they were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers and used drones to receive consignments of weapons and narcotics from across the border.
Acting on the information, police arrested two more suspects—Jashanpreet Singh and Gurwinder Singh alias Ginda. Officials said Jashanpreet is already facing a case involving the seizure of 2 kg of heroin, while Gursewak Singh also has multiple criminal cases registered against him.
Police recovered a total of four pistols and five live cartridges during the operation. Two more accused linked to the racket are still on the run, and police teams are conducting continuous raids to apprehend them.
Officials said further investigations are underway to identify the network's cross-border links and trace the full extent of the smuggling operation.
